A Helping Hand for Consumer Driven Health

Businesses are increasingly offering consumer-driven health plans (like HDHPs and CDHPs) to manage cost, but trends are showing that employees aren’t quickly following. But they’re likely not choosing to stick with standard health plans because they feel it’s a better choice; instead they’re uncertain about how to become health care consumers. Businessolver can help organizations better inform their employees through two main functions: information and enrollment education assistance.

Information.

Information delivery needs to occur on multiple levels. Employee needs range from basic informational meetings, to more-in-depth resources, to in-the-moment enrollment resources like plan comparisons and cost estimators. As these new plans present a whole new way to thinking, and can be a bit scary for employees, information sources must be available at the research and decision-making phases for employees to be sure of their decisions. The lack of knowledge and education is evident in individuals currently using these plans. According to the EBRI/MGA survey, of the 17.2 million individuals with an HDHP only 37% (6.3 million) who were eligible for a Health Savings Account (HSA) actually had opened an account. And without the HSA, most HDHPs are not nearly as effective as stand-alone health care insurance options.

Businessolver helps employers educate employees through a complete communication strategy that includes:

Cost Estimator. Helps employees estimate their usage of the various plan options and determine which plan is the most suitable.

Plan Comparison. Allows the employee to view a side-by-side comparison of various plans and the features of each.

Reference Center. Virtual library where we may post enrollment materials, summary plan descriptions, benefit summaries, links to carriers, etc. for access at any time.

Insurance & Financial Calculators. Businessolver features a library of approximately 25 different java-based calculators that can be added to the employee’s home page or specific election page.

Custom Text & Views. No employer or employee is alike, so we have generated the ability to customize the enrollment process by employer and by employee. Each employee experiences an enrollment process that is unique to their eligibility, age, compensation, role, etc.

Enrollment education assistance.

Beyond information, many employees will benefit from enrollment education assistance. They will seek the advice of a live resource to answer questions and compare health care options. And depending on the size of the organization, that resource may need to be an outsourced partner. Employers (and their benefits brokers) now need to be much more informed so that they can accurately inform their employees.

Businessolver helps employers provide enrollment education assistance to employees through its Service Center. Employees can call or live chat Midwest-based representatives with intimate knowledge of employer plan offerings. This one-on-one counseling essentially acts as a personal extension HR departments, saving time and attention of HR teams and providing the best information available.
