Here at Businessolver, we take pride in not just being a technology company but a company that practices “Technology with Heart.”

HeartSolver

What does “Technology with Heart” truly mean? It means we’re not just developing benefits platforms or providing services — it signifies our core value of Giving Back to our communities and ensuring client delight in all that we do. To me, there is no better example of this ethos than the Businessolver Foundation.

Since 2016, the Businessolver Foundation has donated $730,000 to causes and charitable initiatives across the country. This year our donations totaled $300,000, with employees adding another $27,000. Our employees have given over $62,000 in the last three years, and they’ve donated nearly 4,000 hours of their time to make a difference in their communities and in the lives of others. In fact, in 2018 our Solvers’ volunteer hours increased significantly, in activities ranging from 5Ks to building homes to providing school supplies for children in need, and much more.

As we look back on 2018, we are incredibly proud of the generosity of our Solvers and the work the Businessolver Foundation has done to improve our communities, engage with clients where they live and work, and make a difference in peoples’ lives. Here are some of the highlights of the Foundation’s initiatives this year:

Supporting health nationwide

Throughout the year, the Businessolver Foundation adopted wishes for three children in the Make-a-Wish program, and also funded a party to celebrate each child. The Foundation granted wishes for children in the Denver area and in Iowa. Also in Iowa, Solvers donated funds to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital for the purchase of sleepers worn by infants in the NICU and PICU.

The Businessolver Foundation contributed to activities to honor fellow Solvers, including sponsorship of RAGBRAI (The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa) for the third year in a row and providing free blood-pressure screenings along the route. This effort honors the memory of Solver Chris Charron, who passed away from heart-related complications. The Foundation also raised over $7,600 for Team Peggy as part of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition’s Annual Walk/Run to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer, in honor of Peggy Brockhouse, a Solver who passed away from ovarian cancer.

In the Baltimore area, the Foundation donated $5,000 to sponsor four events for the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC), including two runs and a walk, which benefitted a variety of programs for oncology patients and survivors of domestic violence.

Providing for education

As a technology company, we at Businessolver are committed to inspiring children to get involved in STEM and related fields. The Foundation sponsored tech-education initiatives such as a robotics challenge at a local Iowa high school, as well as initiatives with Junior Achievement, a nationwide organization that helps young people understand and thrive in the 21st-century economy. Solvers also donated backpacks and supplies to an elementary school in Chicago and wrote inspirational messages to the 4th grade students there to start their year off on a positive note.

The Foundation’s scholarship program awarded $32,000 in scholarships to 24 student this year. Open to high-school seniors who are dependents of full-time Businessolver employees, the program has awarded $59,000 since 2016.

Investing in communities

The Businessolver Foundation sponsored activities and initiatives to engage with clients and improve communities across the country. From raising funds for nature trail preservation in Dallas, TX, to donating $15,000 to communities devastated by the California wildfires, to partnering with Ronald McDonald House Charities in North Carolina, Colorado, and Iowa, Solvers and the Foundation offered support for rebuilding and community improvement efforts in the places they and their clients live and work.

Closer to our Iowa headquarters, Solvers donated time and funds to Habitat for Humanity and the Iowa Homeless Youth Centers (IHYC). Raising $3,000 for IHYC and donating 200 items of professional attire this year, in 2018 the Foundation was honored to receive the IHYC’s community partner award.
