Five Reasons to Participate in #GivingTuesday
Founded in 2012, #GivingTuesday is an online initiative designed to celebrate and encourage philanthropy.
Following the widely-recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday celebrates the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
At Businessolver, we believe our employees want to do good through the workplace, and by encouraging participation in drives like #GivingTuesday our company creates an environment that feels positive, empowers employees and creates an overall feeling of pride.
Here are five reasons to participate in #GivingTuesday.
Anyone can Participate – Did you spend a lot of money holiday shopping this weekend? No worries! Giving monetarily of any amount counts and you can always donate your time or talents to a non-profit organization in need. Think of how far a $25 donation could go if your company offers a match or others do the same. Plus, if you think about it, $25 equals only about five lattes and that is certainly something we can all skip for a month!
Show Pride in Your Community – We all want our communities to be better places to live, work and play. Participation in #GivingTuesday sends a message that you care about the health of where you live or another community you care about.
Teach Your Children the Importance of Giving – Let’s face it, social media is part of all our children’s worlds. The hashtag, #GivingTuesday, allows us the opportunity to educate our kids around what this hashtag means, why it was established and how they can participate. Kids can give back too!
Motivate Others to Give – Your good intentions can turn into action by others. Giving is contagious and if your friends, family and co-workers see you post for #GivingTuesday, they just might be motivated to give and post as well.
Celebrate the True Spirt of the Holiday Season – With all the holiday buzz, it is easy to forget why we celebrate the season. This season is about joy, love, family, friends and the spirit of giving. Personally, I try to remember it is a time not only to give to my loved ones, but also to people I don’t know who have greater needs.
This year at Businessolver we are encouraging employees to consider making a monetary donation to the Businessolver Foundation. Since 2016, the Businessolver Foundation has been supporting organizations in all our communities based on the three giving pillars of: Health, Education and Community Betterment. Many of these donations have been made at the request of an employee. For our campaign, all dollars raised will be matched by the Foundation and used to support employee driven requests.
