Everyone has their favorite dish at Thanksgiving. And let’s be honest, Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks but it’s also a time to indulge in our favorite treats. I’m not here to tell you to eat a carrot stick on Thanksgiving, but there are a few things you can do to offset all the indulgences during the holiday season.

1. Move it to improve it. We at Businessolver have a fun group workout challenge throughout the year with exercises that our employees can do at their desks. Leg raises, squats, jumping jacks, etc. Get a couple of family members together and have your own move it to improve it while waiting for dinner. It’s a fun way to get everyone up and moving burning some calories! Here are more move it to improve it exercises to try.

2. Step challenge. Challenge yourself to get the same amount of steps you usually do during a busy day. Go for a walk, walk to the store instead of drive. Just do a quick lap around the block. Walking around will increase your heart rate and keep your metabolism moving. You could also do a local Turkey Trot before Thanksgiving dinner. Make it a new tradition!

3. Portion control. Don’t fill your plate with things you don’t really like just for the sake of it. Make sure you have a vegetable on your plate, and it’s great to load up on turkey, which is lean protein. If you’re not the biggest fan of stuffing, skip it. If you LOVE mashed potatoes, just keep a serving size in mind. A good measurement is the size of your palm. If you have large hands, do half a palm.

We hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving, stay healthy out there!
