At Businessolver, we believe in recognizing the significance of Juneteenth and honoring the rich heritage and contributions of the Black community.
Our Solvers share their insights on what Juneteenth means to them and how they celebrate this meaningful day.
“As an African American male raising two young boys, Juneteenth embodies the resilience and strength of our ancestors who fought for freedom and equality. It is a reminder of the progress we’ve made and the struggles that remain, serving as an inspiration to instill pride and a sense of history in my sons. Celebrating this day is a way to honor our heritage, teach them about our enduring legacy, and encourage them to pursue their dreams with the knowledge that they stand on the shoulders of those who paved the way for our rights and opportunities.”
-Leon Hall, Architect
“Hailing from the great (kinda) state of North Carolina, we in Charlotte celebrate through festivals, guided pilgrimage tours showcasing historic sites, raising awareness, etc. Juneteenth is an opportunity to remember and honor all that came before us and the hardship and devastation they endured. It is passing along the meaning behind why this is a holiday, why it should be important to every American, and a time of education for future generations. Our ancestors struggled too hard to have this date be forgotten!”
-Stacey Davis, Client Services Lead
“To me, Juneteenth represents a symbol of freedom and resilience for Black Americans. On Juneteenth, I take deliberate time to reflect on my own privileges and biases, recognizing the importance of allyship. Additionally, I actively support Black-owned businesses as a way to contribute economically to the Black community and honor the significance of this important day.”
-Gina Clemen, Director of Consumer Experience
“I’m from a small town in PA named Pottstown and we had no Juneteenth celebrations when I was growing up. It wasn’t until I moved closer to Philly that I was exposed to full-out celebrations, church services, parades, and service events! Once I had children of my own, it was important that they understood their history, especially attending PWIs. Our family traditions are cleaning the house early in the day, spending time together as a family watching a movie, and we usually have the same food we have when bringing in the new year, fried chicken, greens, black-eyed peas, and cornbread.”
-Kendria Mitchell, Project Manager III
“There are so many things to experience in Atlanta for Juneteenth. A big festival with live music, vendors, games, food trucks, and info booths all over Atlanta. To me, Juneteenth is when our people truly got to experience freedom. While there were some that were free, this was the etch that others needed to see.”
-Miranda Brokenberry, Client Services Lead
It is a time to reflect on the progress made and the work that remains in the pursuit of equality and justice. At Businessolver, we acknowledge the importance of this day and are committed to supporting and uplifting the voices and experiences of the Black community.
