Jon Shanahan

President and CEO

Back in 1998, Jon started Businessolver with co-founder Sean McMurray, focused on solving a real problem, and inspired by a big vision. He wanted to create a benefits administration solution that combined the best in technology and service with a fierce focus on the end-user. They rolled up their sleeves and got it done.

From that beginning, Businessolver has grown under Jon’s leadership, and has continued to build its reputation and market share. The original mission hasn’t changed; the focus continues to be market-changing technology, a commitment to service, and a keen understanding that everyday people rely on us to deliver their benefits. It’s a responsibility that Jon ensures everyone understands and gets behind.

Jon is always on the move — tracking market changes, learning about new innovations, and meeting with clients and prospects around the country. He’s in the Des Moines office; he’s in Denver. He’s on the ground in Charlotte. He’s at the company gym. He participates in every bi-weekly new hire orientation, greeting each new Solver personally. Personal accountability is important to Jon, and that includes everything from the company’s overall strategic approach to servicing clients, to making sure employees have what they need to succeed.

While he’s been at the helm at Businessolver since the beginning, his prior professional life provided the jumping off point for the venture. Before founding Businessolver, Jon was vice president of consulting services at Holmes Murphy & Associates (HMA), a leading national insurance agency. Jon also rolled up his sleeves as director of operations for a leading healthcare organization (HHS Inc., which was acquired by Gentiva Health Services Inc.)

Rae Shanahan

Chief Strategy Officer

Delivering the best benefits administration technology solution at Businessolver is truly a team sport, and Rae is quarterback, coach, and cheerleader all rolled into one.

Solvers take the field each day with an organizational perspective called “The Businessolver Way.” It’s the playbook for how we treat each other and our clients, an intentional guide that defines our core values, core business, operating principles, safe environment, and common language.

Rae has overall responsibility for maintaining and enhancing this playbook, which informs our business excellence, training, client engagement, and product development efforts. She leads by example with a continuous focus on learning and excellence, overseeing the parts of Businessolver that get us from market to client and employee delight.

As Businessolver grows, Rae has ensured we have the rock-solid foundation and strong ethic necessary to continue to deliver on our promises – both to the market and to our employees. She is passionate about Businessolver’s culture and focus on excellence, and she works tirelessly to refine and improve both. Ask her what she likes best – she will say she gets to live her personal mission every day: “Living with energy – creating it, sharing it wherever I go.”

Rae joined Businessolver in 2000, after more than a decade in HR, both on the client side and the delivery side. Rae was a major accounts district manager for ADP and worked in various human resources positions at Maytag Corporation, including recruiting, compensation, organizational development, and employee training.

Amit Jain

Chief Operating Officer

“A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.” That quote from Albert Einstein isn’t just something Amit uses as inspiration. He lives it. Having held more than 10 roles in a variety of disciplines throughout his career, Amit is no stranger to the risks and rewards of trying new things.

Following a successful career as a product developer at Motorola, Amit moved into management consulting at Booz Allen Hamilton. This experience prepared him for a variety of strategy and operational roles during his six years at Aon PLC, where, as the VP of Strategy and Operations, he led an operational excellence program across several countries and helped with the merger of Aon Reinsurance and Benfield.

“I’ve never been much for accepting the status quo,” Amit said. “You’ve got to think outside the box and be willing to fail and learn quickly from your mistakes.”

Upon joining ADP in 2012, Amit began specializing in Human Capital Management. There, he served as the head of strategy and business development for Small Business Services and Major Account Services. But his longest stint at ADP—four years—was serving as the General Manager for the middle market Benefits and Talent Solutions organization. During this time, he championed several strategic and operational transformation initiatives that led to significant improvements in customer satisfaction, customer retention, associate engagement and financial performance.

Throughout his career, Amit has also taken his passion for learning into the classroom. He holds a master’s degree in computer science from Case Western Reserve University and a master’s in business administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

In his free time, Amit gives back to his community by mentoring middle schoolers in public speaking and working at his local food bank. He stays active by playing squash and hiking, and fuels his passion for learning new things by traveling. His past travels have taken him extensively throughout Europe and Asia.

Bradley J. Mirkovich

Chief Revenue Officer

“There are no straight lines in nature or business.” This quote from Verne Harnish, author of Scaling Up, has been a favorite of Brad’s throughout his 20-year career in scaling up the revenue and operations of world-class software companies.

Like most Solvers, Brad’s journey to Businessolver in 2020 has been anything but “straight.” And, that’s good! In fact, it’s his wide variety of executive sales and general management experiences that has made Brad such a valuable member of the Executive Team.

Prior to joining Businessolver, Brad was the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) at Conga, a workflow automation software company based in San Mateo, CA. There, he helped companies from finance to merchandising scale up to new efficiencies that improved their bottom line while creating great customer experiences.

Brad’s experience in the human resources and benefits industries includes stints as the CRO for Accolade, Glassdoor and SAP Concur. Working with rapidly growing, name-brand organizations, Brad has learned how to meet the constantly evolving needs of HR and executive leaders to help them meet their unique business strategies and revenue goals.

A graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, Brad also studied at the University of Melbourne in Australia. He also spent five years working overseas with executive positions at Selectica in London and Paramatric Technology in Amsterdam.

In his free time, Brad enjoys biking, hiking and skiing and enjoying the outdoors that Colorado offers. He currently lives in Denver with his wife and two children.

Greg Reynolds

Chief Technology Officer

One of Greg’s favorite quotes is by internet pioneer Stewart Brand. “Once a new technology rolls over you, if you’re not part of the steamroller, you’re part of the road.”

To Greg, software is a people business. “We pave the way for our customers to add value to their best assets—their people,” Greg says. “The better our solutions are, the more engaged and appreciated their employees become.”

With over 20 years of executive management experience, Greg has spent his career building SaaS solutions for the automotive, financial and communications industries. Prior to joining Businessolver as Chief Technology Officer in 2020, Greg held similar positions in small to large, equity partner-backed enterprises, which instilled in him an obsessive focus on the customer experience and a belief that a commitment to quality is the best investment any company can make.

Since the explosive growth of the internet in the late 90’s through the first wave of software as a service, Greg has held that technology, when applied properly, can greatly enhance our personal development and professional lives.

In his free time, Greg enjoys restoring classic cars, motorcycling and volunteering at his church. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Arts in Finance, received his MBA from Westminster College, and now shares his skills through educational programs aimed at women and the next generation of programmers.

Sean McMurray

Chief Technology Officer Emeritus

Some people have great ideas and never act on them. Sean McMurray isn’t one of them.

Throughout his 20+ year tech career, Sean has specialized in developing and implementing data-based information technology platforms. And, just to round things out, he also started seven companies, including co-founding Businessolver in 1998.

In fact, he was one of the original builders and designers of the Benefitsolver platform, and he served on the board until rejoining Businessolver as our Chief Technology Officer in 2017.

Sean is responsible for strategizing and driving our technical vision, leading all aspects of the company’s tech development and future growth. He is fanatical about security, and he and his team are constantly working to safeguard our systems and data from threats.

He’s held executive-level roles at several firms in technology and financial services – including founding DataVision Resources and serving as its CEO until it was acquired by Equifax in 2011. Additionally, Sean previously was Chief Technology Officer at SmartyPig, LLC, principally responsible for managing all regulatory and compliance issues, monitoring risk and security during and after integration, and designing accounting and tax solutions for the financial aspects of SmartyPig until 2015.

Outside Businessolver, Sean serves on the public Board for West Bank (WTBA) and as head of the risk/IT committee.
